Ever since Girteka Logistics acquired its first MAN truck in 1996, supported by three employees to make sure a customer’s cargo would be delivered on time and without any issues, the customer-first approach was joined by an additional focus on our environment and the community surrounding us, including our employees.
Thus, as the company continued to grow, we aimed to utilize the most environmentally friendly and the most efficient trucks that are available in the market – that is why our trucks are powered by Euro 6 standard diesel engines. The most efficient engines on the market not only reduce our operating costs, ensure our trucks have the least impact on the environment around us but also help in maximizing the comfort and security of our drivers, as the new trucks also adhere to the newest safety standards. For example, automatic braking is a major step forward to improve road safety, and to protect communities that surround the road transportation industry.
Environmentally friendly fleet of trucks
Currently, four market-leading brands are present in the Girteka Logistics’ fleet: DAF, Mercedes Benz, Volvo and Scania. More than half of the logistics company’s fleet are Volvo I-Save trucks that emit 10% fewer CO2 emissions compared to a standard Volvo FH truck, as the newest generation of I-Save trucks is equipped with modern technology solutions that significantly reduce fuel consumption on a daily basis.
We take a step further, as we also offer our customers to make deliveries on their behalf utilizing HVO. Utilizing HVO100, a pure version of the alternative fuel, depending on the feedstock that is used in the manufacturing process of the fuel, helps to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 85%. One of the main advantages of HVO, compared to other alternative fuels, is the fact that it can be operated in parallel with traditional diesel fuel.
In total, Girteka Logistics has 8,000 trucks registered in several countries in Europe, including Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Germany, and Norway.
FLEET OF TRUCKS AND TRAILERS
While having 8,000 trucks is no short of being impressive, a truck is just one link in the transportation chain.
In addition to our fleet of trucks, we also boast an impressive number of trailers – 8,700 to be exact, split by 5,800 reefer and 2,900 tilt trailers. As a result, we can offer flexible and tailored transportation solutions to our customers.
For example, intermodal transport, wherein our trailers are placed on trains and transported between various lines on a railway, with the last mile being completed by one of our trucks. A widely developed ferry network within Europe is also available to our customers, minimizing the potential cargo delivery time, in particular on lanes to and from Scandinavia.
The reefer trailers, coupled with the fact that Girteka Logistics is a Good Distribution Practices (GDP)-certified road transport company, ensure high-quality transportation services in the pharma logistics chain.
“One word, which can describe the level of system in Girteka Logistics, presented by your colleagues, is outstanding,” remarked Grzegorz Kaczmarek, an auditor at Bureau Veritas, following his GDP audit at the company. In addition to the GDP certificate, the company also holds ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates, as well as a Safety & Quality Assessment System (SQAS) attestation certificate.
Reefer trailers are also utilized to transport perishable goods, such as:
-
Dairy products
-
Excise goods
-
Fish and Seafood
-
Meat
-
Processed foods
-
Vegetables and fruit
We also do it in a secure manner, as we are Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) certified company, utilizing TAPA level 1 security locks on our trailers. Furthermore, we monitor our trucks and can provide secure parking options where our drivers take their allocated time off, resulting in a company-wide security KPI of 99.9%.
All in all, we managed to complete over 820,000 full truck load (FTL) deliveries in 2020. Out of the 820,000 FTL deliveries, 35% were fresh & frozen food products, 21% were retail products, 17% were automotive & industrials products, 16% were consumer & household goods, while the remaining cargo was comprised of such items as high value or excise goods, as well as pharma.
